Fragrant wood beads are made in various ways, depending on the material cost, the material hardness and whether there is a need to preserve or recover the scraps, especially when the fragrant wood quality is exceptional. The cheapest bead making methods would generally involve using a drill bit with a shaving blade that cuts half spheres into the wood, doing it both sides, results in a whole bead being spun out. However with fine materials like hon-kyara or sinking grade agarwood, barrels are first cut out of the wood slab, with a thin jigsaw, and with the edges of the barrels trimmed to create spheroids, so that the wood scraps are generally as intact as possible. Finally a slow shaving process is done to turn the spheroid into round beads. See the video in the instagram reel below!
