The Best Day of the Year to Make Incense

12 June 2013 by Kyara Zen

yang

The above statement is one that has been passed down in Chinese Incense culture records. The translation of it roughly means : Fragrant herbs are born from the culmination of pure Yang, it is the embodiment of pure Yang.

The Fifth Day of the Fifth Lunar Month, is a festival celebrated by the Chinese. It is the Dumpling festival with a legend behind it, a Chinese scholar Qu Yuan whom drowned himself to prove his innocence, and how the villagers made little rice dumplings to be thrown into the river in hope that the fish would not eat his body. So don’t be puzzled if you see someone eating rice triangles wrapped in leaves.

This day is also the Chinese Summer Solstice based on the lunar calendar, and is considered to be the day when the energy from the Sun is the strongest, where the Yang energy is the most intense and concentrated. As such, many fragrant herbs are traditionally considered best to be harvested today, and it is also the best day of the year to make incense.
